We Shall Remain is a five-episode miniseries chronicling American history through Native American eyes. It’s part of the American Experience series on PBS, using the format to reject two-dimensional clichés of American Indians and explore the real, three-dimensional history of the tribes. Were they aggressive savages? Or were they noble diplomats? We Shall Remain suggests that, at times, they were both.

Joined by CRIT Theatres’ Keith Moses, I interviewed Chris Eyre, the director of three out of five episodes of the series – a Native American himself – and asked him about some of the tensions that exist in contemporary understanding of the role Native Americans played in the last few hundred years of American history. We finished up by giving away three DVD box sets to three callers. Listen here.
