The America created by the founding fathers of the United States was an America which prized rights and freedom above all else. In fact, individual determination – the ability to make moral, religious, ethical, life decisions for oneself – was SO important to Jefferson, Adams et al that they prized it above democracy, and the government they formed reflected that.
2012 presidential candidate Rick Santorum, on the other hand, thinks that, because the majority of Americans identify as Christian, they should be able to force the minority to live by their moral code.
