Or at least I’m not supposed to. This is the cover of The Scorpions’ album, Virgin Killer, released over 30 years ago, and it’s become the focus of a censorship issue because, clearly, it depicts a minor in a state of undress and falls foul of child pornography laws. It’s gone so far that the UK government agency responsible for enforcing laws as they apply to the internet has censored Wikipedia now and blocked its users from accessing or editing the article!
It’s a tough one. On one hand, the cover is a part of history and we don’t want to censor history. On the other hand, it’s a depiction of a nude child posed provocatively. Is it art or is it child pornography, and shouldn’t the law differentiate between the two? I think so.
