John Wright is an award-winning independent filmmaker and radio producer from Belfast, Northern Ireland, living and working in Arizona and California.
His documentary work shares a broad focus on what people believe and why. John’s recent feature-length documentary profiles Bart Campolo, the son of famous evangelical preacher Tony Campolo (Far From the Tree, 2017). Bart stopped believing in God at the age of 50 and moved his entire life away from Christian ministry, leading to the in-depth conversation with his prominent father captured in the film. As the son of a Presbyterian minister, John has long been interested in the questions answered by religion.
He also explored the role of belief in two separate films about the Mohave tribe on the Colorado River, their traditions and culture, and how they are asserting those beliefs in the present day (The Marking of a Milestone, 2015 and Beyond All Boundaries, 2016). His very first documentary was a light-hearted look at the very real and widespread beliefs of a rural Arizona community in a mythological creature (Goatman: Search for the Legend, 2010).
John also takes on a certain amount of commercial work, including for TV, radio and theater. If you would like to talk about collaborating on a project, go HERE to contact him directly.
